Two Attempts on His Life Change That

[comments]::1)I find myself talking about a problem of principle. As every member of society has some basic rules to live with, so a translator has a moral code to live up to. Let's give the code the designation of translators' common sense.


2)What's the common sense anyway? One of the common senses:Do not make omission of modifiers, which specify, determine, and define terms. It's just like you are telling a lie that you make an omission of a modifier. An investigative reporter is not a mere reporter. The investigative reporter is the one who is specialized and trained in delving into injustices and corruptions of society, and eventually in making disclosures for the sake of the benefit of the general populace.


3)The translator has got it wrong. Utterly wrong in that he has misconstrued the statement {{Two attempts on his life change that.}} to mean to the effect that "Two incidents change his life." That's not it. He is equivocating, not doing the version job justice.


4)The phrase {{two attempts on his life}} means that there had been two attempts to take his life. To elaborate, people attempted to kill him, which means that people had tried to kill him but failed in the attempts.
