Cataphoric Reference: He=>The Night Watchman

[같은 문장의 전반부를 자르다]:한국의 번역자들 정말이지 이런 짓 그만합시다. 마음대로 뭉텅뭉텅 잘라내는 일 말입니다. 같은 문장의 전반부를 잘라내는 일 정말이지 이해할 수가 없습니다.


[the night watchman]:1)영어는 관계입니다. 영어 문장의 의미는 관계 속에서 파악되어야 합니다. 2)He=>the night watchman 관계가 바로 한 줄 사이로 이어지고 있는데 뭐가 문제로 된다고 고민하다가 그만 잘라버리기로 한 것입니까?


[the dawn은 six o'clock?]:1)동틀 무렵이 왜 반드시 6시여야 합니까? 2)“동이 트는 시각”은 봄 여름 가을 겨울 계절마다 다릅니다. 요새 같은 때면 오전 4시 반에서 5시까지 정도를 동틀 무렵 또는 새벽이라고 할 수 있지 않을까요? 6시만 되어도 이미 날이 다 훤히 밝은 시각이기 때문에 the dawn이라고 하기가 어려울 것입니다.


[comments]::1)A translator is not supposed to slice, chop, or truncate any original parts. We the readers can't imagine translators, who are obligated to deliver bilingual cultural contents unharmed, commit various modes of vandalism, which Korean translators do so often with impunity.


2)I can't understand why the translator has made an omission of the middle part of a whole sentence: {{the night watchman had completed his final rounds.}} I wonder whether he was racking his brains over the identity of {{the night watchman.}}The replacement constitutes a cataphoric reference. In other words, the pronoun "he" precedes the noun phrase "the night watchman." it represents. (cf anaphoric reference)


3)The translator has changed, or distorted "the dawn" to "six o'clock in the morning." The act, which exceeds his or her jurisdiction as a translator, is dictatorial. I have also doubts as to whether the dawning hour is precisely six o'clock in the morning. Rather, six o‘clock in the morning is too late as a dawn.


4)"Dawn is the period of time immediately preceding sunrise. It is recognized by the presence of weak sunlight, despite the fact that the sun itself is still below the horizon." "Dawn should not be confused with sunrise, which is the moment when the leading edge of the sun itself appears above the horizon." "The length of time that dawn lasts varies greatly with the observer's latitude. In equatorial regions, dawn may last only a few seconds; in polar regions, dawn can literally last an hour or longer."
